POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Director, Women United develops, directs and executes strategies to increase giving to United Way through growing the Women United membership network through acquisition, retention, and increased giving from current members. The Director partners with Relationship Managers to grow membership revenue in workplace accounts.  The Director directs volunteer leaders and committees to develop and execute an annual activity, engagement and communication plan, manages a portfolio of individual Women United members and prospects. The Director collaborates with Marketing to create marketing to achieve the communication goals.  Participates in cross-functional internal and external teams and projects as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Director achieves measurable increases in assigned leadership giving-level group total Women United membership, member engagement, and revenue raised, with specific focus on giving directly to the United Way of Central Maryland through the following strategies:

 

15%  Workplace Partner Engagement

Works directly with Relationship Managers to develop and execute strategies to grow membership group participation and giving within specific workplaces.  Strategies can include leveraging current volunteer advocates/champions to strengthen relationships leading to increased access to employees, sponsorship, or WU events; developing toolkits and events with employee resource and affinity groups, and developing innovative approaches.

 

20%  Volunteer Leadership Management 

The Director leads, develops and executes strategic and focused initiatives that leverage group leadership and engagement in partnership with Women United Executive Council and Committees.  Responsibilities include managing and supporting the Executive Council (and related subcommittees) including recruiting and retaining council and committee members.  Develop and streamline committee management.

 

20%   Events and Activities

In collaboration with the AVP, Membership Networks, the Director creates annual plans to recruit and retain assigned leadership giving-level group members and increase revenue generated from group members. Responsible for leading activities for prospective, current, and lapsed members to join and/or deepen their engagement.  Activities can include weeknights and weekends across United Way of Central Maryland’s footprint.

 

10%   Communications and Marketing

Develops communication strategies, in conjunction with AVP Membership Networks and the Marketing team, and uses all available channels to inform, invite, and engage members and prospective members. Responsible for ensuring regular updates and fresh content across all Women United communications channels, including the UWCM website, regular email communications, event invitations and registration.

 

30%      Workplace Account and Individual Donor Management

Personally manages all aspects of fundraising and relationship development for a portfolio of workplace partners and individual donors to increase engagement and giving. Provides strategic, personalized recommendations and excellent customer service. Responsibilities include engaging and stewarding relationships with executives/CEOs, existing donors, prospects, and community coordinators, and developing and implementing a strategic approach for each account delivered through a defined workplan. Regularly updates company, donor, and financial results information in Development database(s).

Develops and implements strategic plans and tactics in the portfolio to achieve annual financial, participation, retention, stewardship, and revenue under management goals to include:

  • Developing year-round relationships 

  • Providing outstanding customer service

  • Tracking and reporting results and adjusting strategy as needed

  • Deepening relationships with prospects and donors

  • Holding strategic donor stewardship conversations that lead to achievement of donor engagement, retention, and increased funding goals

  • Collaborating with Major Gift team members to identify prospects for Emerging Tocqueville and potential Tocqueville level donors

  • Increasing dollars to Resources Under Management (RUM) for UWCM

Achieves annual portfolio goals and provides leadership towards achievement of total annual development team revenue goal.

 

5%     Organizational and Cross Functional Work

  • Represents Development on UWCM cross-functional teams and participates actively in achievement of team goals and objectives.

  • Actively participates in other departmental and organization initiatives and team as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

Education and/or Experience: 5 to 7 years related experience in customer relationship management, marketing, communications and/or sales, with high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Proficiency in in-person and virtual meeting technology required.  Bachelor’s Degree desirable, Knowledge and application of electronic pledging, tracking, customer relationship management software and communications tools is a plus

Volunteer and Committee Management Experience: Must have track record working with high level volunteer committees, such as Board of Directors, strategic planning committees to develop activities and communications that meet organizational goals.  Able to listen to multiple perspectives, both internal and external, to create agreement on short term and long-term plans.  Requires ability to collaborate with volunteers to set agendas, facilitate meetings, and ensure committees meet their goals.

Language & Communications: Must be comfortable and adept in communicating with all levels of corporate partner staff, from front-line employees to executive management. Ability to develop and present high-quality presentations to a variety of group attendees and group sizes – from one-on-one to large meetings of 100+, in-person and virtually. Very strong verbal and written communication skills are required as is the ability to persuasively present UWCM messaging verbally and in writing, adeptly respond to questions, and act as a positive and professional representative of United Way.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to understand and calculate sales performance to goals. Ability to assess performance targets and potential opportunities, track, and report progress to goal

Reasoning and Self-Management: Ability to analyze complex situations and identify the critical components and dynamics to design creative and appropriate responses with options and solutions. Ability to work effectively with different temperaments/work styles and work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to manage issues and crisis calmly and effectively is necessary. Must be able to plan, organize and prioritize one's workload to maximize use of time and meet varied, multiple needs

Leadership: Positive attitude and self-confidence. Very strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to assess issues and develop plans and tactics to address those issues. Willingness to step up and support organizational goals and needs outside specific job criteria. 

Other Critical Skills:  Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and sound judgment to manage sensitive donors, internal and employee information. Must be highly organized with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

Regular walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The employee must frequently talk and hear.  Weights of up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.  There is extensive use of a computer.  Employee is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.
