Xavier and Adrianne
![]() |
Six months had passed by so quickly for Adrianne, who was about to return to work after her son Xavier’s dramatic arrival into the world.
Xavier was born prematurely and would require specialized care due to his fairly extensive medical needs. Adrianne and her husband were faced with some difficult decisions. Who would understand the complex needs of their son? As a new mom, these were the questions that lead to many restless nights and worry.
Xavier’s doctor had talked to them about PACT, a United Way-funded partner supporting the development of young children with special needs and their families. World of Care is one of their five programs, and the only childcare center in the Baltimore metropolitan region staffed and equipped to care for children who have medical conditions that require daily nursing care.
At first, just the thought of daycare seemed out of the question in Adrianne’s mind. But after a tour of the facility, she realized that the care there would exceed even her own capabilities. The experienced staff, innovative therapies and protocols are specifically designed to bring about the absolute best case scenario in development and learning in each child.
She still isn’t the “drop off person” with Xavier each morning at PACT— she makes her husband do that. But Adrianne goes to work with peace of mind, knowing that Xavier is getting the very best care available, and is very happy to be the family “pick up person” at the end of the day.
PACT programs operate under the supervision of Executive Director Audrey Leviton. PACT is one of more than 100 partners of UWCM.
Adrianne and Xavier's story is just one of many that happen at PACT.
