Help students and teachers get back to school

Choose one of the following activities to welcome local students back to school this Fall.

After two difficult and unprecedented school years, we are excited for students to attend in-person classes again later this year. United Way of Central Maryland wants to provide students with the best possible start in 2021. You can help!

School Store Registry:

Stock our school store by purchasing supplies from our Back-to-School registry.

Run a Supply Drive:

Collect much needed items to get students back to the classroom. We are looking for NEW supplies only. Once you register you will receive more information about the items we are looking to collect.

“Back to the Building” Volunteering:

Some students haven’t been inside their school building in more than a year. Many of these buildings can use some extra love. Join us at one of several sites throughout Central Maryland to paint, landscape, and beautify the school for returning students.

Create Bookmarks (Virtual):

Create, decorate, and color bookmarks for children to use in their new books. We can provide templates as needed.

Record a Story (Virtual):

Bring literature to local children by reading a story and submitting it to us! All you need is a book suitable for children and a video recording device (like your phone). When you register, you’ll receive additional information, including how to submit your video.

Create Welcome Back Posters (Virtual):

Welcome students back on the first day of school! Create a poster on a 4x6 or 5x7 sheet of paper. These posters will be placed on student lockers to help get them excited for the school year.

Teachers' Lounge Registry:

This has been a difficult year for teachers, too. We are working to create an inviting space for teachers to use during instructional breaks. Purchase something for our amazing teachers from the Teachers' Lounge Registry and help welcome them back to school.

United Way’s work touches all phases of a student’s educational journey, like advocating for quality early education, keeping children in the same school when their families move, and helping more students graduate from high school.

Donate to UWCM’s Education program today to ensure students are set up for success.
