A Message From Our Chair

Thank you for making an impact with Emerging Leaders United (ELU). Your annual gift with United Way of Central Maryland supports a wide range of causes in our region— it also makes you a member of ELU— a powerful network of young professionals.

What makes ELU different than other young professional networks? We are committed to giving back to our communities and making tangible, positive changes where it’s needed most. When I first joined ELU several years ago, I didn’t have many expectations. I enjoyed meeting other members, networking and volunteering on occasion, but it wasn’t until recently that I learned how truly grateful I was to ELU.

When the pandemic unfolded and we were quarantined in our homes, I felt trapped. I wanted to do something meaningful, but I didn’t know how. Not long after, I received an email from United Way reminding me that, by way of ELU, I was helping thousands of people throughout the region with COVID relief: first responders, healthcare workers, and people in crisis. I was thoroughly impressed. I realized I was part of something extraordinary, a movement to LIVE UNITED. Despite confinement, I decided I wanted to lean into ELU now more than ever!

This year, we have an incredible opportunity to grow support for our communities when they need it most. As chair of ELU, I believe we are an unstoppable network of young people who are making a permanent and lasting change for a brighter tomorrow -- our generosity makes that possible.

This year, we’ve already made going back to school brighter for families at the Excel Academy, a public adult high school in Poppleton. We improved the playground at their new United Way Family Center –an initiative to improve lives in West Baltimore. This holiday season, we’ll bring even more joy as we collect presents including brand new toys and games for neighborhood families  as a part of our new Holiday Mobile Market in Poppleton.

I encourage you to join us and renew your annual support. We have a new Vice Chair and Executive Council, who are eager to make our region better. We can’t wait for you to get to know us and we want to get to know you! Members of ELU care about so many causes—from education to housing to the environment. When you join ELU, you’ll find someone to connect with who cares as much  as you do!

As ELU chair, I’d love to connect with you on LinkedIn.
