POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT

As a highly skilled Neighbors United Coach, the primary role is to work closely with residents in designated communities, community organizations, and trusted agencies to manage the organizing and implementation of a neighborhood/resident driven upstream strategy that addresses specific socioeconomic issues of respective communities.

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • Implement the Neighbors United strategy in collaboration with designated communities, community organizations and trusted agencies under guidance of Sr. Director, Neighbors United.
  • Assist and communicate with Sr. Director, Neighbors United and designated Neighbors United sites in decision-making and initiative implementation.
  • Coach and provide technical assistance to designated Neighbors United sites.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

50% - Resident-based Community Organizing and Advocacy

  • Build and develop relationships with NU neighbors and community stakeholders (non-profits, businesses, schools, faith-based institutions, etc.) to develop a local core team to serve as a NU site leadership team.   
  • Work in collaboration with neighborhoods, Neighborhood Zones, and Sr. Director NU.
  • Conduct community canvassing surveys
  • Host community forums
  • Attend community meetings
  • Work on special projects as Project Manager, when needed.

 

30% - Neighbors United Strategy/Resident Driven Strategy and Implementation

  • Facilitate community organizing/advocacy training on a regular basis to include, but not limited to:
    • How to conduct a community forum
    • How to facilitate a community survey
    • How to identify upstream issues
    • How to write a Problem Statement
    • How to create an Upstream Resolution Strategy and Plan
    • How to Implement an Implementation Plan
    • How to expand Influence
  • Serve as a mentoring agent for Core Team to establish sustainable leadership structure
  • Ensure strategy is upstream, leading to hyper-localized, local or state policy recommendations.

 

15% - Communication

  • Serve as liaison between NU neighborhoods, its partners, and SD of NU regarding neighborhood climate, resident well-being, neighborhood level trends, project updates, proposals, and planning.
  • Handle inquiries and develop action plans (cross functionally at times) – assist with preparation and dissemination of communication internally and externally.
  • Report and actively communicate with SD of NU on strategy development, progress, accomplishments and challenges.

 

5% - Processes & Procedures

  • Organize documents in electronic file system (paper when needed).
  • Develop processes and coordinate procedures for optimized efficiency, collaboration and productivity.
  • Streamline meetings, presentations, and materials in collaboration with neighborhood-based staff.
  • Prepare and maintain various spreadsheets and documents.
  • Provide support and create tickler system for deadlines, reports, training requirements, and budgeting.

INTERACTION:

Internal: Interacts with UWCM central and regional office staff on a daily or weekly basis to coordinate work/tasks; provides information as needed, participates on staff committee/team activities; develops cooperative and effective working relationships with Neighborhood based staff, including Impact Strategies team members and other UWCM colleagues.

External: Interacts with volunteers, staff and community partners, collaborators, and other organizations on a regular basis to respond to inquiries, provide technical assistance and community impact activities as assigned/identified.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma, AA Preferred.
  • 3 years experience in community organizing and/or community-based work, organizational mentoring, and supervision of volunteers/interns
  • Demonstrated computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint), outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and proofreading skills. Ability to implement efficiencies to improve work processes.
  • Experience in non-profit or volunteer setting preferred
  • Focus on community asset building

  • Ability to travel between sites regionally.

Occasional walking or standing is required.  The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects.  The employee must frequently talk and hear.  Weights of up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted
