SENIOR DIRECTOR, HOUSING INITIATIVES

 

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT

In response to the COVID pandemic and the ensuing housing and financial crisis, UWCM has significantly expanded its work in the eviction prevention space, including the creation of new programs and the hiring of many new staff. To continue on this trajectory, a highly skilled Sr. Director of Housing Initiatives is needed to work closely with our team on improving productivity, streamlining and overseeing programmatic functions of the Housing Team and communicating between Programs/Departments/Divisions as well as with stakeholders.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • Oversee UWCM’s housing initiatives from development through successful execution under guidance of VP, Housing & Sr. Program Officer.
  • Assist and communicate with VP, Housing and Housing Team Directors in decision-making, program management and initiative implementation.
  • Improve current processes and coordinate housing program procedures for optimized efficiency, collaboration and productivity.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

40% Oversee Housing Program Operations

  • Build and develop relationships with all Housing Team employees for increased effectiveness and efficiency in response to existing operations and help define new operation strategies.
  • Work on special projects, when needed.
  • Lead or co-lead Housing Team meetings.
  • Attend meetings of the various UWCM housing programs in order to stay abreast of developments, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Oversee daily operations through collaboration with VP, Housing and the various Housing Team Directors, performing an array of administrative tasks – generating correspondence, maintaining copies, creating presentations, etc.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources Division, Sr. Director of Operations of Impact Strategies and Housing Team Directors, oversee the hiring and process for new Housing Team staff.
  • Serve as Task Supervisor for personnel from other departments or divisions, such as Compliance, Grants, and/or Accelerator Institute, when staff from those areas are assigned duties on the Housing Team.
  • Supervise some or all cross-program staff roles that may be created in the future, such as Customer Service Representatives, who serve clients from multiple different housing programs.

20% Housing Program Management and Implementation

  • Help strengthen / execute internal system for managing program execution, including ensuring compliance with grants.
  • Improve or accelerate the integration of new technologies into the workflow of housing programs.
  • Project manage and implement new initiatives, as needed.
  • Ensure workflow is optimized for programmatic implementation in meeting benchmarks.
  • In collaboration with VP of Housing, manage process for implementation of any new housing programs or initiatives.
  • Ensure fidelity to program models, resulting in a safe and positive working environment.
  • Provide back up support for Housing Team staff and interns, as needed.

20% Communication

  • Serve as liaison between Housing Team staff and VP, Housing regarding company climate, employee well-being, project updates, proposals, and planning.
  • Notify relevant team members when communication with internal or external stakeholders is needed.
  • Handle inquiries and develop action plans – assist with preparation and dissemination of communication.
  • Report and actively communicate with VP, Housing on strategy development, progress, accomplishments and challenges.
  • Participate in strategic planning with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot client cases and route inquiries about UWCM housing programs to the appropriate internal contact.
  • Provide data and updates to Marketing and Development/Major Gifts teams on a regular basis.

20% Processes and Procedures

  • Work with Housing Team Directors and Administrative staff to organize electronic records and files.
  • Streamline meetings, presentations, and materials in collaboration with Housing Team Directors.
  • Prepare and maintain various tracking spreadsheets and documents for services, clients, and deadlines.
  • Review payment requests submitted to VP of Housing for accuracy and completion. Approve and sign any payment request from any direct reports.
  • Maintain check request tracking systems and spreadsheets.
  • Provide support and create tickler system for deadlines, reports (i.e., grants), training requirements, and internal data sharing, etc.

 

INTERACTION (INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL):

Internal: Interacts with UWCM central and regional office staff on a daily or weekly basis to coordinate work/tasks; provides information as needed, participates on staff committee/team activities; develops cooperative and effective working relationships with Housing Team staff, including Impact Strategies team members and other UWCM colleagues.

External: Interacts with volunteers, staff and community partners, collaborators and other organizations on a regular basis to respond to inquiries, provide technical assistance and community impact activities as assigned/identified.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

(required education, years of experience, skills, and abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with progressive responsibility in the area of operations and project management, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience in housing programs and/or Social Work (or related field), grants administration, budget management, and supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and proofreading skills. Ability to implement efficiencies to improve work processes.
  • Experience in case management, non-profit or volunteer setting preferred.
  • Extremely versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity.
  • Experience in planning and leading strategic initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of agencies, corporate and human service delivery system.
  • Customer service oriented and focused.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated success in program innovation and systems improvement.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and be well organized.
  • Prompt, dependable and a team player.

 

SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Experience with data analysis.

  • Strong project reporting skills with focus on interdepartmental communication.

Occasional walking or standing is required. The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects. The employee must frequently talk and hear. Weights of up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted. There is extensive use of a computer. Employee is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position.
