When Janelly became a mother in high school, finishing her education felt uncertain. Like many young parents, she faced the challenge of balancing school, childcare, and the overwhelming responsibility of raising a child while still growing up herself.
Everything changed when she found support at the Family Center at Ben Franklin High School. With her daughter, Jalani, cared for during the school day, Janelly could focus on finishing her diploma, gaining confidence as a parent, and exploring resources to help her build their future.
There were moments when she doubted she could make it. But surrounded by people who believed in her, Janelly kept going. The Family Center became more than a childcare program. It was a safe place where she learned parenting skills, received encouragement, and found a path forward.
Today, the impact is clear. Jalani is 12 years old, an honor roll student, and remembers the time she spent at the Family Center with her mom. Janelly has built a career in healthcare, earning certifications as a nursing assistant and medical assistant, and is now continuing her education to become a nurse.
Janelly gained the opportunity to finish school and build a future, while Jalani grew up seeing firsthand what perseverance, support, and determination can achieve. Together, they didn’t just overcome barriers. They grew up together.
