ADVOCATE 

55. Find out who your legislators are! They are your voice in government.  
56. Sign up for United Way’s VoterVoice platform, a free service that allows you to share critical messages with your legislators. 
57. Understand ALICE – those who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – our neighbors who are working hard but struggling to make ends meet.  
58. Share information about 211, a 24/7/365 helpline, with someone in need.  
59. Follow your legislators on social media and get to know their positions on issues that matter to you. 
60. Share your story about how United Way of Central Maryland’s work has impacted you. 
61. Share information about MyFreeTaxes.com and encourage people to claim their tax credits. 
62. Understanding your voting rights and make plans to vote in upcoming elections.  
63. Read and share our resource guide for 100+ essentials to support basic needs.   
64. Get involved with your neighborhood’s community association to be involved in local decisions. 
65. Create space for voices that aren’t heard as often in your community and listen. 
66. Advocate for affordable, accessible childcare by learning about United for Childcare.   

VOLUNTEER 

67. Set a goal for how many hours you will volunteer in 2025—and make a plan to achieve it! Looking for opportunities? Visit UWCM.org/volunteer.  
68. Help your neighbor shovel their sidewalk, mow their lawn, or rake leaves.  
69. Join our April 10 Way Day of volunteerism to learn more about and support United Way of Central Maryland’s programming.  
70. Invite a co-worker, neighbor, family member, or friend to volunteer with you!

73. Be a mentor or coach to teach someone a skills-based trade.  
74. Run a food drive for one of our programs. 
75. Write a thank you note to a teacher, first responder, or veteran. 
76. Volunteer as a companion to support older adults in Baltimore County with Changemaker Challenge grantee, Neighborhood Companions, Inc. 
77. Do a book drive for one of our eight community schools.  
78. Ask a local shelter if you can cook for residents. Consider dietary needs! 
79. Set up a community clean up – or just go out with a trash bag on your own. 
80. Set up a free library in your neighborhood. 
81. Set up a free food pantry in your neighborhood. 
82. Visit your local animal shelter to socialize with animals. It calms them, which makes them more likely to be adopted.  
83. Stock one of our Beat Boxes (Poppleton & South Baltimore) with essential resources/hygiene items. 
84. Chat and play board games with local nursing home residents. 
85. Help English-language learners practice with conversation. 

INVOLVE YOUR WORKPLACE 

86. Send us photos of you or your company supporting United Way through the years.  
87. Implement a designated time for employees to volunteer together and connect with your Human Resources team about offering paid volunteer time off. 
88. Participate in the 30|30 Experience, where, in 90 minutes, you’ll experience real-life decisions faced by a parent of a low-income household. 
89. Put together a plan to support your organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility goals. Contact us to help! 
90. Implement WorkWays, an initiative where we support employers by utlizing resource navigation and community resources to allow their employees to thrive. 
91. Support leaders in your organization by promoting and covering membership costs in our Membership Networks. 
92. Invite a speaker from one of our programs to your workplace to learn more about the causes your team cares about.  
93. Consider sponsorship of our events and experiences.  
94. Post about your support of United Way to your company’s social sites, internal communications, and website. 
95. Learn about our Workforce Leadership Academy and stay tuned for the next application period. 
96. Join our Partner Program and learn about other ways to partner with us.  
97. Share (internally, with your partners/clients, and with us!) why your organization is committed to giving back.
