In partnership with United Way of Central Maryland, Day of Service projects will cover every region across the state
BALTIMORE (Jan. 4, 2023) – Today, the Moore-Miller Inauguration Committee is honored to announce a statewide Day of Service in partnership with United Way of Central Maryland. The day-long event is scheduled for Monday, January 16, 2023, in recognition of the inauguration and to commemorate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
“This inauguration is not about a single person – it is about every person in the state of Maryland as we come together and unite around a mission to leave no one behind,” said Governor-Elect Wes Moore. “That is the spirit with which we lead on this Day of Service. I am grateful to so many of you who have come out to join us in this pursuit. And we are especially pleased to partner with United Way of Central Maryland, whose work and volunteers strengthen lives and communities everyday. Today we honor Dr. King’s legacy not just with words, but with direct action as we strive to build a more inclusive Maryland and lead with service in our hearts.”
“United Way works to realize the dream and ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. every day. As part of the historic inauguration of our new Governor, we’re proud to contribute what we do best: uniting people from across Greater Baltimore in service to Maryland neighbors and neighborhoods,” said President and CEO of United Way of Central Maryland Franklyn Baker. “Helping to coordinate this Day of Service, along with United Ways in Frederick County, the National Capital Area, the Lower Eastern Shore, and other Maryland United Ways, demonstrates our commitment to advancing equity, opportunity, and access for all, and our proven ability to connect people to causes they care about.”
There are many ways to get involved and available volunteer opportunities to address some of the issues that impact Marylanders the most. Volunteer projects range from supporting efforts to ensure everyone has access to healthy meals and can live in clean communities, to assisting families with critical resources, providing school supplies to students, and creating public art.
