At United Way of Central Maryland, we’re fortunate to have incredible volunteers who show up, give back, and make a real difference across our region. Today, we’re shining a light on two volunteer superheroes: Christine and Morgan.
Building Community, One Food Distribution at a Time
Each month, Curtis Bay Elementary School — a United Way Community School — transforms into a grocery store-style food distribution, providing local families access to fresh food and essentials.
Through Under Armour’s volunteer initiatives, Christine and Morgan have become vital parts of this effort. Christine got involved on her own, but after seeing the impact firsthand, she brought along her team, including Morgan. This duo has been instrumental in supporting the Curtis Bay community for more than a year.
Christine and Morgan shared that their passion for volunteering comes from a deeply personal place. Growing up, they experienced firsthand what it’s like to need extra help. That connection fuels their desire to create a welcoming, supportive experience for others.
Christine says, “When you volunteer, you become a part of their community.” From dance parties while waiting for deliveries to seeing the care and dedication of the Curtis Bay Elementary staff, Christine and Morgan find joy in the little moments of connection.
But most of all, it’s about the people. When asked to provide a reason for other volunteers to join in service, Christine mentioned the “feeling,” and Morgan shared, “It shouldn’t take much convincing to volunteer—everybody deserves to have their basic needs met.”
We’re so grateful to Christine and Morgan for their time, heart, and commitment to United Way of Central Maryland and for making the Brooklyn Neighborhood Zone a stronger, more connected community.
