Kendra Parlock, Vice President of Partnership Development at NPower Maryland and Vice Chair of United Way of Central Maryland’s Women United Executive Council, only recently started thinking of herself as a philanthropist. Kendra knew she cared about doing good and met a group of incredible mentors, who inspired her to deepen her engagement. Lynne Durbin, longtime Women United leader and Kendra’s mentor, actively guided Kendra and introduced her “in a deeply personal way” to United Way’s impactful work. Surrounded by like-minded changemakers, Kendra realized that yes, she is a philanthropist. This revelation embodies the heart of the Pathways to Philanthropic Leadership program, where personal growth meets community impact.
Pathways to Philanthropic Leadership, a nine-month mentorship experience that connects emerging philanthropists with established local leaders, brings together a network of female philanthropists who donate their time, talent, and treasure to build stronger communities across Central Maryland.
Participants connect with community leaders and hear inspiring stories from seasoned philanthropists. They attend field trips that illuminate the work of United Way, culminating in a capstone presentation that allows them to showcase their insights and ideas. Moreover, Pathways is a significant pipeline for leadership within Women United. Notably, Kendra moved beyond the Pathways program into the Vice Chair of the Women United Executive Council role, serving alongside another Pathways alumnae, Kristin Kober, who is the current Women United Executive Council Chair.
If you’re an emerging female-identifying philanthropist ready to embrace your potential, consider applying for Pathways to Philanthropic Leadership. Applications are open through May 31, 2025. Apply today and take the first step toward a future of impactful leadership.
