United Way of Central Maryland has opened applications for nonprofit resiliency grants as part of its United for Good: Community Relief Fund, which launched last month to deliver rapid, targeted relief to people and nonprofits grappling with the lingering impacts of this year’s economic instability and the recent government shutdown.
While the shutdown has ended, many families, individuals and community organizations continue to face heightened strain. Demand for emergency assistance remains elevated across the region, and many nonprofits – already stretched thin – continue to experience increased need and reduced resources.
To help meet these challenges, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets of $5 million or less that support the basic needs of families and individuals in Central Maryland are now eligible to apply for grants ranging from $2,500 to $25,000.
Applications are due December 15, 2025. Visit uwcm.org/grants for more information and to apply.
“Nonprofits across Central Maryland have been on the frontlines of every crisis our region has faced. This year is no exception,” said Franklyn Baker, president and CEO, United Way of Central Maryland. “As people struggle with the continuing aftershocks of the shutdown and a persistently challenging economic environment, these organizations are stepping up every day. The United for Good nonprofit resiliency grants will help them continue delivering the essential services our neighbors rely on.”
United for Good grants will provide:
- Support for organizations facing funding cuts or delays, to sustain projects and/or operations, and prevent disruptions in crucial basic-needs services.
- Funding to allow organizations to expand and accelerate assistance to meet rising critical needs in our communities.
- Projects and strategies to increase organizational resiliency and sustain critical services through multi-organization collaboration, consolidation, or merger.
The United for Good: Community Relief Fund, announced in October and launched with an inaugural contribution from Freeman and Jackie Hrabowski, was created to expand emergency relief, strengthen nonprofits responding to increased community need, and bolster United Way’s 211 Helpline capacity amid rising requests for assistance. For more than 100 years, United Way of Central Maryland has provided what’s needed, where it’s needed, when it’s needed – from housing and food security to childcare, education support, and emergency intervention. Today, as the organization continues to raise additional funds for the Community Relief Fund, these grants mark the next phase of its commitment to ensuring that no neighbor faces hardship alone.
Nonprofit leaders seeking more information about eligibility, guidelines, and the application process can visit uwcm.org. Organizations and community members are encouraged to share the opportunity within their networks.
