Eviction Prevention and Rehousing
A place to call home is one of the most basic and essential human needs. Yet for too many people in our region, housing is out of reach due to staggering costs and a high rate of evictions.
In Greater Baltimore, the housing situation is dire. Even before the pandemic, only 3 in 10 low-income renters could afford housing. Those who can’t are forced to live in motels, stay with relatives or friends, sleep in their cars, or worse, on the streets, resulting in a chain reaction that affects their lives and our entire community.
Low-income earners, or ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households and those in poverty are the most vulnerable to losing their homes.
As one of the largest non-governmental funders of eviction prevention in our area:
Legal Assistance with Evictions
The ACE (Access to Counsel for Eviction) program connects eligible tenants at risk of eviction with free legal assistance.
Are you facing eviction or the loss of your housing subsidy? Call 211 and ask about the ACE program or learn more and complete an application.
Note: If you received a notice of a scheduled court hearing and you want to defend your case, you must attend the hearing. If you do not go to court, the judge may rule in favor of your landlord.
