At just 24 years old, Sonia Su received her diagnosis: an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Sonia persevered through multiple relapses and rounds of chemotherapy. During treatment, Sonia received a care package from a stranger, which turned into the foundation for her purpose and vowed to pay kindness forward.
“[The kit showed me] people, even strangers, are rooting for me and my recovery.” – Sonia Su
Sonia founded Kits to Heart to distribute care kits to cancer patients and caregivers. With more than 6,000 kits assembled by 5,000 volunteers across all 50 states, Kits to Heart provides support to those navigating treatment nationwide.
United Way of Central Maryland saw the promise in her purpose and awarded her three Changemaker Challenge grants. Sonia’s work celebrates what United Way of Central Maryland’s centennial of service represents – the caring power of communities.
