POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT
UWCM is well known for its Family Center programming, where high school student-parents participate in an array of supportive services designed to remove barriers on their path to high school graduation. The Family Center offers individual and group counseling, parenting workshops, case management, high quality early childhood education for their infants and toddlers, and transportation to and from school, all at no cost.
The Lead Teacher’s role is to work closely with the Family Center team to provide high quality early childhood education and childcare to infants and toddlers in the Family Center.
The Family Center operates within UWCM Neighborhood Zones, geographical regions, where we listen deeply to residents and co-create solutions using an asset-based framework.
OBJECTIVES
- Provide safe, high quality early childhood education and socio-emotional support to infants, toddlers, and their parents.
- Support parenting students and their families to become their child’s first and best teacher and advocate.
- Ensure infants and toddlers develop on-target and are ready to enter pre-k and head start.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Included but not limited to):

70% Implementation of High-Quality Childcare and support services
- Complete MSDE curriculum-based lesson plans, conduct quarterly ASQ’s, check points, and daily observation logs for each child.
- Implement developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor activities and routines.
- Nurture and facilitate the natural, individual development of the whole child, ensuring the family is aware of how to continue this support at home through the use of parent conferences.
- Participate in the implementation of trauma-informed, attachment-based activities/model (e.g., Circle of Security, Circle time; NCAST taping, etc.).
- Assure that equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate and in good condition.
- Work as a team member to provide a warm, nurturing environment that is physically, socially and emotionally safe. Model and encourage appropriate social interactions.
- Provide basic care for children which includes feeding, grooming, and changing diapers.
15% Communication
- Communicates incidents and risks in a timely manner to appropriate personnel.
- Communicate effectively with parents during daily interactions (i.e., lunch, drop off and pick up times, and on daily correspondence sheets)
- Develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with other employees, participants, and their families.
- Encourage the development of Childcare aides, volunteers, and other childcare personnel in the classroom.
- Assist the Child Development Specialist and Director(s) in evaluation of aides as needed.
10% Physical
- Implement daily cleaning protocol not limited to fogging, mopping, sweeping, and sanitizing all areas, toys and equipment DAILY.
- Perform classroom related and other maintenance duties as requested.
5% Processes and Procedures
- Participate in required family center and United Way trainings, and professional development (i.e., Relias, CARF requirements, continuing education training and other career development and professional activities).
- Attend staff meetings, conferences, and workshops.
INTERACTION (Internal and External):
Internal: Interacts with UWCM central staff and UWCM neighborhood staff on a regular basis; provides information as needed, participates on staff committee/team activities; develops cooperative and effective working relationships with Neighborhood Zone staff, including Impact Strategies team members and other UWCM colleagues.
External: Interacts with City Schools Engagement staff on a regular basis. Interacts with volunteers, community partners, collaborators, and other organizations on a regular basis to respond to inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS (required education, years of experience, skills, and abilities):
- High school Diploma or equivalent education required
- AA degree, or equivalent college credits, in Early Childhood Education or related Health Care Field is preferred. Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate is required within one year of date of hire (unless AA/AS specifically in Early Childhood Education).
- 90 Hour Child Care certificate or equivalent education required; 45 Hour Infant and Toddler certificate required.
- At least 1 year experience working in a childcare or early learning environment.
- Must be able to travel to and from different locations and sites in the greater Baltimore region.
- Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform various keyboard functions.
- Must be physically present at the assigned job site.
- Able to pass background check and health check.
- Knowledge of normal/abnormal growth and development throughout the age continuum.
- Ability to provide, assess, interpret, and communicate age-specific data in response to protocols.
- Must be able to organize and manage time and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with other employees, participants, and their families.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent walking, standing, squatting, running, and jumping are required. Ability to lift 50 pounds, reach above the shoulders, bend forward from the waist, bend at the knees and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to push, pull, force exertion up to 50 pounds.
The hands are regularly used to write, type, and key and handle or feel small controls and objects. The employee must frequently talk and hear. There is use of a computer. Employee is frequently seated on the floor while performing the duties of the position. May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood pathogens, and aggressive or combative program participants.
SALARY: $23.00/hour (Salary range: $33,873-$38,714)
