Eudaimonia: A concept first used by Aristotle to indicate human ‘happiness’ or ‘flourishing’
As a creative visionary, Emmanuel Simms changes the way stories about mental health are told. He founded the Eudaimonia Project, recognizing the need for mental health awareness and education in his community – and a belief that he could make a difference.
And United Way of Central Maryland believed he could make that difference too. In 2024, Emmanuel was awarded $25,000-the top grant amount in the Changemaker Challenge in Howard County. Sponsored by the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County, the Community Foundation of Howard County, Horizon Foundation, Howard County Government, and United Way, the Changemaker Challenge celebrates social innovators with big ideas to benefit their communities.
The Eudaimonia Project builds resilience through community programs, educational content, and resources designed to heal, connect, and empower individuals. To support his initiative, Emmanuel utilizes resources provided by The Lonely Entrepreneur, a community of entrepreneurs who learn, share, and collaborate.
“We often don’t know how much people carry in their hearts. With these resources, we can reach more individuals, provide essential support, and foster a stronger community dedicated to mental wellness.” – Emmanuel Simms
In addition to his work for the Eudaimonia Project, Emmanuel is also the Founder/CEO of In Vivo Exposure, a production company focused on mental health in the Black community through film and television. Together, these organizations craft immersive experiences that touch people’s lives.
While Emmanuel’s relationship with United Way is just beginning, he generously donated to the 100-year anniversary campaign, participated in the 30|30 Experience, is an active member of The Lonely Entrepreneur community (sponsored by United Way), and served as an ambassador of our work in Howard County.
If you’re able, donate a few dollars to support United Way’s work-and the work of our changemakers across Greater Baltimore.
